Monthly Update
April 20, 2024
On April 4th,18 of us had a great tour of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging in Novato. The work they are conducting is very interesting and was expanded upon by our guest speaker at our monthly meeting on the 16th. The Buck Institute building was designed by I.M Pei, who also designed the Louv in Paris. One interesting fact about the building is that it does not have any right angles.
On Friday the 10th of May we have a 1 ½ hour private tour ($20 each) scheduled at Fort Ross State Historic Park, guided by personnel with the Fort Ross Conservancy. There is a $10 fee per car for parking, but if you have a California State Park pass you parking is free. We have a custom Five-Day Tour of Southern California scheduled for July 23rd-27th. So far, we have about 25 people that have paid their deposit and includes SIR’s members from San Rafael, Rohnert Park, and Windsor. We still have room for more people to join us for this interesting trip that includes traveling by train, bus, ferry and plane. If you wish to go, please send me your deposit as soon as possible. Finally, Sturgeon’s Mill, a steam powered sawmill located in Sebastopol, will have a mill run that is open to the public on Saturday September 14th. Our own Tim Talamantes, the head docent at Sturgeon’s Mill, will show us around the operation. Information will be available for this excursion at our August meeting.
